Sustainably Chic

25 Ethical Brands that Give Back with Each Purchase

Conscious ListsNatalie Kay

{updated September 2018}

Whether it be a cause, a particular non-profit or a community, each of these brands dedicate partial profits to something more than the brand itself. With each purchase you make, a percentage goes into a mission they care for deeply. Not only are you supporting a sustainable product, you are sustaining a mission beyond the fashion industry.

The Tote Project

20% of profits are donated to Two Wings

If there is one brand that radiates hope & compassion in the most practical way {because many of us could tote-ally use a tote!}, it's this one. Based on friendship & a shared dream, Fay Grant and Michelle Chavez started the The Tote Project to support the recovery for victims of modern day slavery. With hope, they strive to empower survivors of human trafficking by providing them opportunities and helping show their worth & potential. Each tote is sewn in India by women who have left the sex trade, and with every purchase made 20% of profits are donated to Two Wings, a US non-profit dedicated to helping survivors pursue their dreams.

Besides giving back, The Tote Project chooses to use materials that are kind to our planet, too. All totes and pouches are made from 100% organic cotton, and printed with water-based eco-friendly inks. The pouches use recycled saris for the colorful lining and braided tassels. After using both their pouches and totes for the last month, I can definitely say they picked an amazing canvas. It's very strong, and their prints are some of the sweetest I've seen! Wouldn't you agree? Pictured is their Free To Bloom Pouch & their Logo Tote {above}.

Sustainable underwear that saves the world?! Yes, please! The coolest part about these men & women undies is you get to pick the charity when purchasing {$4 per pair is donated}. And it gets even better... each pair is made with organic pima cotton {yeah, they are super comfy} and the elastic band keeps 1 plastic bottle out of the landfill. These underwear truly 'marc' everything off our conscious list.

The easiest sustainable switch anyone can make - plastic to bamboo when brushing. What's also great about Mable is their subscription program that allows you to sign up to be sent a new toothbrush every few months.

1 Bottle = 6 Months of Clean Water

With over 650 million people lacking access to clean water, Yuhme is just one great way we can help make a difference while being conscious consumers at the same time. Each bottle provides 6 months of clean water to someone living in the Central African Republic. How amazing is that?! We can get rid of the plastic reusables and disposables all while helping those who need it most.

As someone who lives very close to the water, I’ve done my fair share of trying out different towels. Hands down, I’ve found my new favorites! Not only are QuiQuattro’s towels beautiful, but they are absorbent and ethically produced. It doesn’t get much better than this when it comes to soft goods for the home {& outside by the water}! I think a product is so much more beautiful when it does more than just bring value in our life, but adds value to others. With each purchase, 10% of proceeds are donated to women’s education in Turkey.

It truly doesn’t get more women-focused than this!!

Who Gives A Crap

50% of profits go towards building toilets

I always love when a product has a mission beyond being eco-friendly. Who Gives A Crap gives back a lot! For every purchase, 50% of profits go towards building toilets and sanitation for the 2.3 billion {roughly 40% of the global population} who need it. Because of poor water and sanitation, about 289,000 children {almost a child every two minutes} under five die every year from diarrheal diseases. To this day, they have donated over $950,000 to charity. Now, that is something we can all get behind!
