conscious holiday gift guide

Woah, I feel as if I was just putting last year’s gift guide together! Boy, does time fly fast, or what?!

This gift guide contains a little something for everyone. If you are like me, you probably have a lot of people in your family you don’t know what to buy for, but upcycled shoe insoles, glass straws and cozy socks are a pretty safe bet, wouldn't you say? I have some gorgeous fashion accessories for the sustainably-minded woman, sweet somethings for the bakers and entertainers, and then, of course, I couldn’t forget the little guys & gals in our life. Hope you enjoy & happy {conscious} shopping!

anchal project

A non-profit social enterprise, Anchal is providing alternative careers in textiles to marginalized and exploited women in India. Through design they are changing lives and supporting stronger sustainable communities. They believe 'design thinking' is the creative approach to problem solving, and I couldn't agree more.

These organic cotton canvas bags were exceptionally handmade by Anchal artisans in Ajmer, India. I really enjoy the character behind the stitching - it’s imperfectly perfect.

Small Toiletry Bag in Charcoal Cross-Stitch: The little cross-stitch print is so sweet, and it’s just the right size for weekend getaways and travel bottles.

Large Toiletry Bag in Rust Pin: Shopping for a friend who travels often? This size toiletry bag will fit all their essentials, and is actually the one I’ll be bringing to England with me this holiday. The small one will be reserved for jewelry - so better get that friend both ;)

banyan tree essentials

Banyan Tree creates economic opportunity for many artisan communities around the globe. Besides sourcing all of their materials responsibly, each product is free of parabens and cruelty-free. There isn’t one product I’ve tried from this brand I haven’t absolutely loved.

Spirit of Christmas Aromatherapy Kit: Aromatherapy is the balance & harmony of body and mind. These oil burners are perfect for those recharge moments in the day, which makes them a pretty wonderful gift for your friends and family who are constantly on-the-go. This Limited-Edition ceramic oil burner is hand-carved by artisans in Thailand, and is small enough to travel easy. This set is only available this time of year with its 100% pure Pine essential oils.

p.s. no wrapping is necessary because this set already comes wrapped for you in their signature sustainable fabric wrap, woven from discarded plastic bottles!

urban austral

Handmade completely with 100% up-cycled materials, Urban Austral works with local people in Patagonia to provide jobs where they are paid 78% above Fair Wage Minimum. They also donate 1% to REFORESTEMOS PATAGONIA, an organization planting trees in the area.

Patagonia Insoles: Another wonderfully sustainable product the entire family can enjoy! You can choose from four sizes {men, women, kids & baby}, and then cut them down to your exact shoe size. Do you see Elliott’s pictured here?! I’m in love with everything miniature these days. While he isn’t walking, I’m sure they will feel cozy in his little shoes. These insoles are like tiny fluffy clouds for your feet, and they are the perfect match for your winter shoes. Not to mention, they are antiperspirant, insulating and antibacterial. If your gift receiver wears their insoles often.. which they will.. the upcycled lamb leather can be washed with cold water and neutral detergent in the washing machine.

Plus, their prices are incredibly affordable and everything is made with the planet in mind. You could probably find a ton of goodies for your gift list {or wish list} with this brand.

Reusable Glass Straw: We all know how much waste plastic straws are creating on our planet, today. I can’t count the number of times I was given a straw on the table when I said ‘no straw’, but whenever I go grab coffee or a drink to-go, I always take this green glass straw with me! These are one of those easy, yet useful, gifts you can throw in everyone’s stocking.

Storage Bowls: Great for your zero-waste friend! Made from bamboo.. yup, not plastic.. these bowls are lightweight, easy to refill for bulk, and come in sweet colors. Also, check out the SiliWrap™ Silicone Stretch Wrap for the bigger bowls.

fazl socks

A social business dedicated to working alongside women & children in need, Fazl Socks donates 50% of their profits to orphanages AND creates fair jobs. For each pair sold, you are helping provide orphaned and destitute children in India with food, shelter, education, and clothing; along with sustaining jobs for the ladies who knit their socks.

Shanti (Peace) Socks: Not only are these socks for the adults, but the kiddos, too! I mean, how cute are Elliott’s little feet in these?! He didn’t even try to take them off, so they must be cozy if he approves. To be honest, I wear Fazl socks almost everyday - even in the summer. Right when I get home, it’s one of the first things I grab for. All the prints are fun, but the Shanti Sock is perfect for this time of year. I feel like I need to be up in the mountains in a chalet.. maybe next holiday :D By the way, having worn these several times, I can tell you they wash great!

est wst

I’ve known these bags for almost five years, now - okay, maybe not the ones pictured since they are new styles, but I own others ;) EST WST makes a great, thoughtful product you can get a ton of use from. The quality is wonderful, and the materials are consciously chosen - from natural fibers to veggie dyes.

KTM City Rucksack: What’s super interesting about EST WST’s newest collection is the global collaboration. This particular piece was harvested and handwoven in Tamil Nadu, India, but stitched in the USA. I love a product that can incorporate ancient, traditional crafts {like this ikat} & modern design. Makers were paid a fair wage, leather was veggie-tanned, and the organic cotton supports small farmers.

Leila Convertible Tote: You can wear this style three different ways - as a backpack, crossbody or handbag. How versatile is that?! Just like the Rucksack, this piece was stitched in the USA, but harvested and handwoven Eastern Nepal.

Kozy Koala Plush Toy: Gosh, he is such a cutie, and one of Elliott’s great friends! His sweet head has a rattle in it to add even more joy to play time. The Kozy Koala is made completely from organic cotton so he’s soft and toxic-free for your little one. Apple Park has even more plush toys for you to choose from here.

Don’t forget to check out all of EarthHero’s other categories because you will be sure to cross a few more people off your list with their amazing assortment of conscious goods!

i’m not fat, i’m well-rounded: If this isn’t the most perfect fit for my little chunkster :D He sure has gotten a belly and some thighs with all the eating he has been up to over the last 6 months. Maybe he isn’t going to be eating a donut anytime soon, but he sure does look cute wearing one. Not only will you fall for the prints, but you will love the way these onesies feel. I know I’m putting something safe and clean on this new babe!

Globein

GlobeIn is a monthly subscription box connecting us to remote artisans all over the world.  It's a wonderful way to learn about other makers, crafts & culture! Each box comes with a detailed pamphlet telling you about every product, where it is made and who you are supporting.

Bake Artisan Box: I’m sure you have a few people on your list who love to bake! This theme is right up their alley. The Bake Box features beautiful ceramics from Tunisia and Morocco, stainless steel measuring spoons and mixing bowl from India, and a French rolling pin from Tunisia. I don’t bake often, but these beautiful tools sure do want me to do so more often! I have a nice little collection of ceramics from GlobeIn, and they add a lot of character in my kitchen.

oh & don’t forget to check out the Franny’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe that comes in your little booklet.

Mayamam weavers

There is nothing I appreciate more in a garment or accessory than the tradition behind its creation. The Mayamam Weavers cooperative was founded in 2008 in Cajolá, a Mayan town in the western highlands of Guatemala. The weavers make everything from coasters to shawls using weaving techniques of Mayan culture.

Single Wine Bottle Tote in Caramel: Since it’s that time of year we all get together over food and drink, these totes will be sure to come in handy for your next party. I usually always bring a bottle of wine when invited over for dinner, and pairing it with a wine tote is like a gift inside of a gift! They will be able to use it for their next shindig, and the gift just keeps on giving. This style comes in Indigo, too.

Double Wine Bottle Tote in Indigo: For when the hostess with the mostest deserves two bottles of wine! You can find this tote in Caramel, as well.

Rebecca mir Grady

The most beautiful ethical metalsmith around, Rebecca Mir Grady primarily works with recycled silver and recycled 14k gold, and several responsibly sourced stones. After hearing there was enough gold and silver circulating the earth, I’ve gravitated towards jewelry designers who use reclaimed materials.

Stacking Thetis Rings: My go-to rings! I wear these beauties almost everyday. Rebecca is a true talent, and I love how she considers the environment when creating her jewelry. It makes the rings that much more special. These rings feature a stunning ruby and black diamond. Don't you think they look perfect together?

Odessa Ruby Necklace: Not sure of someone’s ring size? A necklace would make an easier choice for you! The carved disk has little markings for a nice texture, and the size is just right to catch attention. This style also comes in a smaller disk if your gift receiver prefers something more dainty.

elate beauty

A toxin-free, vegan & sustainable line with a mission to care for each other, our communities and our planet, Elate is using healthy ingredients to make clean cosmetics to add to your beauty ritual. Their packaging is even sustainable and can be planted to create a little home garden!

Holiday Kits: Eek, holiday makeup kits make me SO excited! I don’t know what it is, but ever since I was a young girl, I gravitated towards beauty at the end of the year. I wanted sparkles and fun lipsticks, which I’m sure I’m not the only one - that’s why I figured their new Holiday Kits would make perfect gifts for the several women on your list. Elate is my favorite beauty brand for several reason - their packaging, the quality, the fact I don’t have to throw out a container of blush or eye shadow because it can just fit right into one of their bamboo compacts. I really think your friends will be excited to learn about them, too!

tonlé

I'm not sure I can even think of another brand who does zero-waste fashion this beautifully. It amazes me how they can take discarded fabric and create something so fresh. There are two popular ones {1} where all the materials are used within a pattern {2} where garments are made from existing materials. tonlé believes in combining the two in order to honor their commitment to sustainability to the fullest.

Kimono Jacket in Palm & Wine Pleang: I think most women in our families wouldn’t mind unwrapping this beautiful piece Christmas morning. Not only would it make them happy knowing it has a small carbon footprint, but the design is stunningly unique and easy to fall in love with. Can you believe it’s made entirely from recycled scrap fabric? Even the wood button is made from reclaimed wood. I like the fact you can wear it for multiple seasons, and I’m looking forward to layering it up in the winter!
