Elate Clean Cosmetics

Always excited to switch things up on the fashion blog and move over to the beauty talk! Since adapting to a more organic lifestyle 7ish years ago, there have only been a handful of makeup brands I have thoroughly enjoyed - and this means, enjoying a range of their products rather than just their lipstick or mascara. It's nice to discover a cosmetic brand where not only I adore the majority of their products, but their ethos is one I can stand 100% behind.

Why I love Elate

It's quite simple actually.. they care! They think about your skin, your lifestyle and the planet. Therefore, all products use loving ingredients and are vegan, cruelty-free, toxin free & gluten free. One of my favorite parts is their use of packaging. It's something I haven't seen before! Instead of giving you a whole new compact for your eye shadow or blush, you receive a magnetic packaging that comes in an envelope made of seed paper. You use their Bamboo Palette to create your own mix of makeup. Pretty great idea, right? They choose to use bamboo packaging for their lipsticks, eyeliners, loose powders and mascara because it's a self-regenerating natural resource. Woo hoo - no plastic!

& then of course, the obvious - I love it because my skin loves it!

What I'm Using

Over the last month, I've become familiar with a handful of their products.

My Elate routine includes their...

Essential Mascara {$28}: THIS mascara is my new favorite. You get seriously luscious lashes & it lasts throughout the day. No clumps, just plump.

& from their Bloom collection {featuring bright hues and neutral shadows}...

Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Belle {$19}: No dry lips, just a beautiful sheen of pink. There is even a hint of mint with its infused peppermint essential oil!

Flushed Pressed Cheek Color in Titian {$22}: Probably one of the boldest blushes I've owned - One swipe and you're set. It's gorgeous!

Create Pressed EyeColor in Cinder & Union {$16}: I tend to stick to the more neutral tones when applying eyeshadow {I don't like it heavy!}. This color combo is perfect for me. I start with the Union on the insides of lids and work my way out with the Cinder.

Below you can see some candid {no enhancing of the makeup :P} shots of me wearing all four:

Skincare for the Seasons | Holistic, Organic & Refreshing

BeautyNatalie Kay

5YINA

Created by doctors of Chinese Medicine and modern-day alchemists, 5YINA treats you skin throughout the year. Angela Chau and Ervina Wu believe we should adjust our skincare routines with the seasons, just like we would do with our diet or wardrobe. This is actually the first time I've ever even thought to do so! I notice a change in my skin depending on climate so it only makes sense I adjust my skincare accordingly. Using 5YINA helps your skin adapt to new seasons  through their use of rare medicinal plants and precious botanical essences. The women behind the line have years of training and experience in medicine - so they know a thing or two about skincare ;) They are thoughtful throughout the entire process, too. From the glass bottles to the sustainable ingredients, 5YINA is total skincare luxury. Oh & it's made right here in the USA!

Since it is April, it's only natural I share their Spring line with you. I'm going to start with my favorite morning ritual - misting with the Enlighten Spring Hydrolat. I'm not sure anything can get more refreshing than this! This formula has three featured bioactives: (1) Roses (2) White Tea (3) Poria Cocos. You can most definitely smell the roses in this product. Did you know rose oil heals wounds, refines skin texture and moisturizes? The White Tea helps in preventing oxidative stress, and helps produce brighter and more resilient skin. Poria Cocos is a Chinese mushroom that helps strengthen skin, reduce uneven pigmentation and prevent acne. I can not wait to bring this on the plane with me to freshen up in the cabin. Besides 5YINA bottles being recyclable, they are also TSA approved so pack away, travelers!

Usually, I have no luck with lip balms. They tend to make my lips dryer than smoother, but not with the Divine Beauty Balm. What's cool about this particular balm, you can use it on your cuticles, ends of hair or anywhere on your body for that matter. It's full of berries and herbs working to heal damaged skin and moisten for a healthy glow & longevity.

Next up is the Enlighten Spring Beauty Oil which is infused with 24 herbal bio-actives perfect for transitioning your skin from winter to spring. This formula helps to balance and stabilize your skin throughout the season, and is a bit like magic in a bottle. I like to use a few drops when I get out of the shower, and after using a Divine All Seasons Biocellulose Mask. This combination is like going to the spa for the day! I've been using the mask once a week for about an hour or so, and then applying a couple drops of the beauty oil afterwards. My skin feels instantly rejuvenated and fresh. It truly is a wonderful feeling!!

Click - here - to shop their entire line & start treating your skin alongside the changing seasons! I'm sure it will thank you ;)

Bye-bye Single Use Plastics, This Shampoo is Refillable

BeautyNatalie Kay

Plaine Products

refill - reuse - rejoice

Striving towards a zero-waste lifestyle, but finding it difficult based on where you live? I totally get this. The town I live in does not have a bulk store for us to refill our shampoo and body wash. This whole notion it's easy for any of us to live completely zero-waste is a bit unrealistic. Truth is - it's difficult, especially if you don't have a friendly neighborhood bulk store. Luckily for those of us who don't, brands like Plaine Products are here to help us out. Plaine Products offer a bath & body subscription dedicated to the elimination of single use plastics. To make it even better, their products are all natural and they really work!! My hair feels incredibly soft - probably the softest is has ever been outside of going to the salon. I'm impressed :D

If you haven't already heard, only 1 in 5 people consistently recycle items from the bathroom, and out of all the plastic in the world, roughly 10% is actually recycled. They are estimating by 2050 there will be more plastic bottles in the ocean than fish. Can you imagine?

I believe in the little things, and I think subscription services where you never have to throw a bottle away again can truly make a difference.

So how does this subscription service work?

Order one of their products - or all - {Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash}, and let them know when you are running low. They will ship you a replacement, and a box with a return label. Ship the empty bottle back so it can be reused. No trash and great quality body products right to your door! Easy as that. They decided to go with an aluminum bottle because they can withstand a ton of travel and they are easily cleaned & sterilized. Plus, Plaine Products uses one of my favorite shipping supply companies, EcoEnclose - so even the packaging is thinking about the planet.

psst.. Based on your preference, you can opt to have a pump sent with your first batch for easy access!

Like I said before, these products make my hair extremely soft. The scent is a blend of rosemary, mint and vanilla {yeah, smells amazing!}, and the formula is great for any hair type {even those with sensitive skin and scalps!}. All products are hypoallergenic, baby safe, color safe, cruelty-free and toxic-free.

Ready to downsize your waste? Click -  here - to shop and start your subscription.

Let's work together to make this world have a little less bath&body trash!

Fresh, Clean Makeup for Spring | Radiant Beauty Collection

BeautyNatalie Kay

by GABRIEL

staying young means aging well

There's nothing quite like a new spring color palette to freshen your makeup routine. This is the first time I have ever tried GABRIEL and I am in love! Green beauty is going to make conventional beauty obsolete soon because of brands like this. GABRIEL is a vegan, gluten-free natural beauty brand, and they have just launched their new spring collection Radiant Beauty. This collection features 5 new nail colors, 4 eyeshadows, 2 blushes and a lipstick. Aren't the colors screaming Spring!?

The Aura Palette has soft eyeshadow tones of blue, green, beige and grey that glide on soft and easy. A little goes a long way, and you don't need a lot for the colors to show up on your skin. The Horizon, a shimmery pale green blue, is my favorite and if you have light eyes {like me} it really gives you a little pop. The Harmony blush is the brightest blush I own, and the only one I will let myself wear this Spring. It's gorgeous!

The Illusion Lipstick is a fresh, nude shade full of nourishing ingredients like jojoba oil and aloe. This combination makes for moisturized lips with no chapping! Their lipstick has definitely sold me on wanting to try more colors in the future.

Now for the nails - something I am trying to be more conscious of these days. I do so much photography, and having nice nails is a must. These tropical colors are going to be so fun for the warmer months ahead. I only own one other 'eco' nail color, so I'm excited my little collection has grown. The Tropical Cool is a limited edition collection so get it fast! Each polish is '5 free' meaning they are free of: Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP, Camphor & Phthalate.

Also, I wanted to mention how my much skin likes their products. I haven't had any break outs while using GABRIEL {can't say this for every green beauty brand I've tried so woo hoo!} :D

Plastic-Free Aquatic Botanical Grooming | For Men & Women

BeautyNatalie Kay

Alluvian

If plastic-free didn't grab your attention, the words affordable & natural surely will. Yes, I mean truly affordable luxury grooming products! I used to be one of those shoppers who gravitated towards the expensive side of things only because I thought the product was more conscious or of better quality. It is when I try brands like Alluvian I realize this is not always the case, and anyone can experience the more luxurious things in life and not break the bank. Alluvian uses some of the most interesting ingredients I've seen like moroccan red clay, french green clay, volcanic sea salt, dead sea mud, and kaolin clay {yeah, I had to look up a few of those}. The brand's name itself is derived from the word Alluvium; "which is a deposit of clay, silt, sand, and gravel left by flowing streams in a river valley or delta, typically producing fertile soil."

Based in the US, all Alluvian products are made in small batches in central Illinois. They take organic plant-based oils,  geologic elements and aquatic botanicals to bring you body products full of natural benefits. What is even more interesting, and something I think most of you reading will greatly appreciate, is the creator John Cowan's detest for plastic. I can't even begin to count the amount of beauty and skincare products I've purchased in the past that I couldn't recycle. I mean, how cool is it to have a Natural Deodorant set in a pushpop-like biodegradable tube?

Interesting {yet extremely frightening} fact: Every 34 seconds, the equivalent of a school bus full of plastic enters our oceans, and last year, almost 200 million deodorants were sold at supermarkets in the US. These deodorants were not recycled... This is where Alluvian saw an opportunity to lessen waste - create a natural deodorant that works, and won't end up in our ocean. Brilliant idea! This Natural Deodorant is specially formulated to prevent odor, and after using it the last few weeks, I can definitely say it works and it's great for both men & women. You won't find any synthetic chemicals, aluminum or dyes, just amazing natural ingredients like nahcolite, kokum butter, Irish sea moss, and essential oils. Plus, I'm a big fan of the scent of sage, and you can smell a hint of it within the product!

If you have a man who grows a beard, I'm sure there have been a few times where you've said "please, go wash your face". I think all the dinners I make end up in my boyfriend's beard. It has been nice to have Alluvian's Isle of Man Beard & Hair Soap because Travis actually likes using it. I love its clean scent of peppermint and sage, and with 6 aquatic botanicals, this bar of soap leaves his hair soft and healthy. Not to mention, a bar of hair soap is the perfect step towards zero-waste.

Alluvian has a wide range of products your guy needs to try, like aftershave, cologne and beard oil. I hear women love the soaps and Auxilio Facial Oil, as well. Hooray for unisex grooming products!! To shop the entire line, click here. Don't forget to get social, and follow them on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram

p.s. Alluvian has partnered with 5Gyres - an organization dedicated to ocean clean up and plastic pollution education. Partial proceeds will be donated to this great cause!!

Happy Grooming, Guys & Gals!
