Sustainably Chic

Playful Sustainable Fashion Inspired by the Mid 70s

FashionNatalie Kay

Husband-Wife Duo, Rebecca & Vedran, started the playful UK brand, RIYKA, in 2011. They wanted sustainability and fun to intertwine, and I mean, why not?! The more amusing, the more people we can get on board, am I right? Inspired by classic sportswear with a few added signatures splashes of color, each season will be able to stand the test of time. With their zerowaste model, you can look good & feel good knowing nothing is thrown out in their manufacturing process, and all fabrics used are ethically sourced. The loose fitted dresses and tops in their SS16 collection have been greatly influenced by the working class youth in 70s Britain with a side of american soul, a very anti-establishment and raw attitude.

In RIYKA we are drawn towards cultural melting pots, past and present, cultures that fuse together fashion, music and the underground scene. For this season we have taken inspiration from the sub culture of mid 70s northern soul and the energy freedom and equality that this music genre stands for.

I'm wearing the ever so easy Amanda Tunic made from end of line cotton. The navy and yellow side panels give this smock dress an awesome focus point, and the chambray has a very light sheen making this dress stand out in a crowd. The loose fit makes it feel as if you are wearing nothing, and the lightness to the cotton makes it ideal for warmer days. The Amanda is made with love in Bulgaria.
