Eco-Friendly, Sustainable and Organic Baby Clothes

After having two babies of my own, I’ve witnessed just how sensitive their skin really is. While we didn’t always buy organic baby clothes for our kids, we certainly tried to find the next best thing when shopping second-hand. Whenever we did buy something new, these were our go-to brands.

How Are These Baby Brands Sustainable?

All brands listed on Sustainably Chic have been vetted to make sure they are aligned with our ethos. We ensure they manufacture ethically, use eco-friendly fabrics and strive to be sustainable throughout their business model. However, we understand that no brand is perfect, but these are pretty close!

WHAT TYPES OF ECO-FRIENDLY FABRICS SHOULD WE CHOOSE FOR OUR babies?

Organic cotton is one of my favorites when shopping for babies. It’s incredibly comfortable, and nothing wears and washes better than cotton. We choose organic over conventional for many reasons, and you can learn about them in this post here. Our favorite type of organic cotton is GOTS Certified. But, of course, any natural fiber made without toxic dyes should be safe and healthy for your babies!

our top picks for Organic, Eco-Friendly & sustainable baby clothes:

1. Many Moons

Onesie Price: $2.99+

The worst part about buying baby clothing is how fast they grow out of them! That’s why I love Manymoons' circular model. They reward you to return their clothes when your kids outgrow. All of their beautiful, ethically and sustainably made clothes come with a Lifetime Return promise. You can either buy from them and receive 20% back in purchase credit whenever you return OR you can rent for a low monthly cost and return for free whenever you want to.

And the coolest thing is that when clothes are returned to them that are no longer in usable condition - they recycle or compost them so they never touch a landfill! They can do this because they only source 100% natural materials that can be safely returned to the earth.

You can read more about Manymoons here.

2. Aster & Oak

Onesie Price: $11-28

Australian-based organic baby (& kid) clothing line Aster & Oak is one of the sweetest places to find all the baby essentials your little one will need. Everything is made with organic cotton and plant-based dyes, perfect for their sensitive skin.

Not only are the fabrics kind to little ones and the planet, but each garment is also ethically-made and certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard.

We love that the nature-inspired prints are all hand illustrated by their team of local female artists. Their collections are versatile, and you can easily mix and match styles. Plus, there are lots of gender-neutral ones to choose from. Check out their bedding and blankets - excellent baby shower gifts!

3. Little Blueberry Kids

Onesie Price: $15+

Little Blueberry Kids is an e-comm platform for sustainable children’s clothing, accessories, toys, and home decor that believes ‘sustainability can be cool and fun!’.

Each brand and product you find in their store is carefully and thoughtfully chosen with a wide variety of styles and price points. They are also all women-owned! Find sleepwear, onesies, dresses, swimwear, overalls, and more.

Circular fashion here on Sustainably Chic is one of our favorite ways to do sustainable fashion. We get so excited to see places like Little Blueberry Kids offer the option for customers to sell back products they have purchased from their store to be listed at a much lower price in the pre-loved section. Also, after returning the clothes you no longer need, they give you a 20% off coupon for your next purchase!

4. Bébénca Organics

Unbleached, Undyed, Organic, full-sleeve Onesie: $32

Are you looking for the purest baby clothing? Bébénca Organics has a signature collection made from unbleached and undyed natural organic cotton fabric (GOTS Certified)! So natural & pure as nature intended, this fabric is made directly from the natural form of organic cotton without any harsh chemical processes of bleaching, scouring, etc. It has only been given a hot water detergent wash to remove the impurities & hence the natural off-white color.

Besides the unbleached and undyed collection, they have many other options - including the softest and cutest prints in two-way zipped jumpsuits, onesies, dungarees, and dresses. The dyes they use for their colored styles are water-based and AZO-free, making them safe for babies. We also love the olive color in their organic waffle collection! All of their collections are gender-neutral and available in sizes newborn to 24 months. Bébénca Organics ethically produces their baby clothing and ships your orders in recycled packaging materials.

5. Hanna Andersson

Sustain eliminates all the worry, & only uses non-toxic plant dyes and organic fabrics to create their pieces. It’s amazing the colors you can make with nature!

Tabeeze, a sustainable and intuitive baby clothing brand, is radically changing how you dress your baby. Tabeeze goes on from the bottom up and snaps closed over the baby's shoulders - this makes dressing and changing much more comfortable and allows for quick and easy skin-to-skin bonding.

11. Loulou Lollipop

Loulou Lollipop started in 2015 their original silicone Donut and Ice Cream Teethers that broke the mold for safety, and durability, with a sweet aesthetic - my son had one, and it was the cutest!
