The Onikas

Created by two best friends, designers Veronica Pesantes and Jonnyka Bormann, The Onikas is their love child made of their passions: travel, creativity, meaningful pursuits and fashion.  Full of gorgeous scarves, ponchos and home goods, their products come with the hope they protect and shield you along your own path. After all, Onika in Africa means 'Warrior". The Hamsa, within their logo, embraces their commitment to sustainability, and is known as a symbol of protection against negativity while speaking of strength and blessings. Remember the gorgeous print on my Clutch & Tote from Bloom & Give? That's their design!

The Onikas seek to preserve, promote, and fairly compensate the skilled artisans who produce our goods. In a world where ancient cultural traditions are overrun with modern mass-produced goods, we believe that nothing replaces the human hand and the collective creative process.

My favorite OMs are now on this vibrant scarf. The Pink OM Scarf is inspired by Jaipur, also known as The Pink City. Made of 100% fine cotton voile, the OM scarf is hand-dyed and hand-block printed in Jaipur, India. Their ponchos are hand-loomed using hand-spun yarn dyed from medicinal Andean plants by a fourth-generation weaver who runs a women's cooperative in Peguche, Ecuador. Treat your garment with love and it will imbue the wearer with the beautiful, symbiotic Andean belief that textiles and nature are one. For them, weaving brings them closer to the sacred fibers life.  Read more about the process and meet the weavers here. All products are ethically made, showcasing the intricate {& beautiful!} artisan talent. I'm excited to see their 2016 Condor Collection where they will be working with master weavers in Ecuador's Imbabura province! Stay tuned...

You're going to fall in love with all the prints on these scarves. Use code SUSTAINABLYCHIC for 10% off your entire purchase, and get social with The Onikas on Instagram!
