When I moved out of my childhood home several years ago, I purchased all the usual cleaning products available at the grocery store. I also used a significant amount of paper towels without much thought about the chemicals present in those products. It wasn't until towards the end of my college years that I became more aware of the harsh chemicals in the products I had been using. I couldn't believe what I had been exposing myself to. So, I began switching everything out little by little, including the paper towels that I had been using for so long. I replaced them with eco-friendly, non-toxic cleaning products and supplies with a very low carbon footprint. Becoming more zero-waste at home has been challenging, but we improve daily.

Recently, I have been cleaning my home more than ever before. It's not because I'm paranoid about getting sick, it's just because I'm home and want my living space to be as clean as possible. Cleaning has never been my forte, and I'm not great at organizing. Unfortunately, I don't have that 'Swiss clean' gene that seems to run in the family; it missed me. However, I am proud of myself for keeping up with cleaning in the last few weeks.

The last few weeks, I’ve introduced a couple new products from EarthHero into our cleaning routine...

What I’ve Been Using at Home

Splash Patrol Natural Latex Cleaning Gloves: My Grandma taught me to use gloves, but I haven't bought a new pair in years. I LOVE these gloves because they are made from natural latex rubber with 100% cotton cuffs to keep water from dripping down your arms. The interior is very soft, so wearing them for a long period of time is fine!

Walnut Scrubber Sponges: Most sponges you find at the store are overlaid with chemicals, and they take thousands of years to biodegrade. This sponge is a little simpler and easier on the planet. It's made from cellulose and recycled plastic and has a walnut shell abrasive texture to help scrub. Plus, it works just as well!

Organic Unpaper Towels: Probably my favorite item here, these bad boys help eliminate the need for paper towels. I've been using random reusable towels instead of paper towels for years, but these are so nice to have folded up together to grab and use! Of course, we still have a few rolls of paper towels in case something gross is present, but I usually use these (which are made from 100% organic cotton).

Refillable Glass Cleaning Spray Bottle: For those who would like to make their own cleaner, a refillable glass bottle is great to have on hand. You can make excellent DIY disinfectant these days since it is almost impossible to find at the grocery store anyway! We have everything we need to make some, so I have it ready when we run out of stock.
