Azura Bay

One of the most frequent questions I receive is 'where do I find ethically produced swimwear and underwear?' While there are several great brands creating swimsuits or panties, now, you can find them all under one roof! Azura Bay has curated a lovely collection of bras, undies, lingerie, lounge, and swim. From sexy to comfy, you can't beat a one stop ethical shop full of dainty lace and organic cottons.

Ashley McIntosh, the creator of Azura Bay, answered a few questions for Sustainably Chic about her recent start up.

Tell us about Azura Bay and how sustainability is incorporated into your business.

Azura Bay is a collection of beautiful, ethically produced and eco-friendly lingerie, swim & loungewear pieces.  Just launched in November, 2015, the boutique offers women a way to easily shop for gorgeous, luxurious items that also support their values. All of the brands carried by Azura Bay are ethically produced,  most are made in North America, and several are owned by women. Most of the brands source their fabrics locally, and a couple use Fair Trade, organic cotton. In addition to sourcing amazing and responsible products for the boutique, Azura Bay strives to be as sustainable as possible in all other business activities. Our packaging is made in the U.S.A from 80-100% recycled content, and we choose recycled and soy-inks for our promotional materials as well.

How did you find a need for this type of business?

Everyone wants to feel beautiful, attractive and confident in their clothes, and fashion is supposed to be fun. Just like most women, I already had a love/hate relationship with shopping, enjoying the pursuit of dresses with the girls and despising needing to find jeans. Then, during university I started learning about the pitfalls of fast fashion and the negative effects it has on people and our planet. That added a whole new element to shopping, as my passion for finding ethical and eco alternatives developed. I discovered that it can really take a lot of time to find options that check all the boxes: stylish, high-quality and good fit, ethically made, eco-friendly, and easy to find (especially challenging in Canada).  As a marketing professional, I thought it would be amazing to combine my passions to help women find sustainable and ethical brands more easily, and that led to the launch of Azura Bay.

How does Azura Bay give back?

Azura Bay is proud to donate a portion of the proceeds of each order to help restore and protect our environment and wildlife, and support health and human rights programs for women and girls around the world.  The choice is given to the customer at checkout so that they can choose one that aligns with their passion.

What are the future plans for Azura Bay?

Expanding the product offering is the number one plan, and I’m dreaming of a signature line on days! Stay in the loop by following us on social media as we will have lots of fun things happening this year.
