Celebrate Artisan Craft & Culture with this Beautifully Curated Online Marketplace

FashionNatalie Kay

Ocelot Market

If you don’t know already, one of my earliest passions within sustainable fashion was artisan goods. I noticed so many cultures were being stolen from, and crafts were copied over and over again. As a creator myself, I know how frustrating it is to be copied so I can only imagine how artisans who have had crafts and traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation would feel. Seeing fast fashion brands copy patterns to a t is absolutely unfair and wrong. In order to truly appreciate the work, we have to support the ones who created it. That’s why it’s important to have places like Ocelot Market where we can celebrate and enjoy the crafts while giving back to those who deserve it most.

Reasons to Love Ocelot Market

Brings Unique, Artisan Products to New Markets: From Argentina to Turkey, Ocelot Market works with many artisans all over the world. It’s a platform the celebrates the culture of the talented makers and designers. They travel the world to find high quality craftsmanship to make your closet more colorful! Plus, by selling directly to you online, Ocelot Market is able to avoid traditional industry markups.

For Women AND Men: I love when a curated marketplace includes both men and women. So many of you have husbands and partners to shop for, and you prefer to use your values when shopping for them, too. Finding ethical fashion for women is easy, for men, a little more difficult.

Shop by Country: Over the years, I’ve had several people ask me if I could categorize my posts by country. That's a lot of work, and maybe I’ll eventually get there, but Ocelot Market has made your request! It’s pretty interesting going through each country on their website - almost like you get a taste of their culture through the crafts, styles and colors.

What I’m Wearing

Turkish Kilim Rug Loafer: I’ve already been sharing these on Instagram because they are my new favorites!! Extremely comfortable and one-of-a-kind, these beauties are - you guessed it - made from a rug. They can make 5-10 pairs of shoes from one rug, and each pair will vary in color and patterns. I’ve worn these shoes almost everyday over the last few weeks, and the craftsmanship is truly amazing!! p.s. they make the Turkish loafers for men, too :D

Jiwe Pendant Necklace: Handcrafted with recycled brass by artisans in Kenya, SOKO jewelry is creating sustainable jobs with heritage practices. What’s even more cool about this line is how they empower the artisans through technology in order for them to have access to an entire world of consumers!

Simple, Comfy & Always Chic, LA Relaxed is Practical, Sustainable Fashion

FashionNatalie Kay

LA Relaxed

{discount code below}

Not to sound like a broken record, but LA Relaxed is one of my favorites. Being a new mama, I’ve had to completely adjust to a new schedule. First thing off the list, taking time in the morning getting ready :P I love how I can feel incredibly comfortable, yet look put together {like I spent more than 5 minutes getting ready}. Also, since I am still breastfeeding - around the clock it feels  -the front zippers on the jumpsuits and the loose sweaters have been a godsend!

What I’m Wearing

Piped Dress in Azure: The sister to the Jumpsuit {part of Oprah’s Favorite Things}, the Piped Dress is made from tencel and organic cotton. Isn’t the Azure a beautiful color?!

Luxx Sweashirt & Jogger in Marengo: Oh my goodness, Lenzing Modal is seriously the softest fabric! It’s been a bit chilly in our home lately - it’s old and the heat doesn’t work great, so when Florida drops below 50, we have to dress much warmer inside. This set has been perfect for this time of year!

Sandy Blanket: This has been our go-to park blanket the last couple of months. Made from 70% Tencel and 30% Organic Cotton, this blanket is so nice to sit on {or roll, which is what Elliott does}. Plus, the cotton fringe adds a sweet little touch!

Piped Zip Jacket & Jogger: As a young teen, I would have been rocking this with my adidas sandals in a heartbeat! Those sandals aren’t really on my radar anymore, but this set will forever be a classic look for me. Sporty, yet chic <3

Reminding Us To Take Better Care Of This Planet Through Inspiring, Recycled Metal Jewelry

Siku Jewelry

When an aesthetic and message align perfectly, it can make for something really beautiful and impactful. Regardless of how the entire world feels about climate change, there has been enough evidence in front of us to show how sick our planet has become in the last few decades. Awareness is key in building more action to help clean our mess up. I love when fashion can remind us of our impact - & this brand does it so well!

Reasons to Love Siku Jewelry

Consciously Made: All of Siku Jewelry pieces are made right here in the US with 100% recycled and refined metals from the jewelry industry {never from a mine!}. Even the packaging and business cards are thoughtful and made from recycled paper.

Unique Design: To be able to look at a piece of jewelry and connect it to something bigger than itself gives fashion a whole new importance. Siku Jewelry hopes to educate consumers on ways to take better care of this planet through their designs and message. The Hexagon plays a large role in their aesthetic, and mimics the shape of ice when combined with oxygen and hydrogen at its molecular level. So every time you look at your piece of jewelry, you can have a gentle reminder to take better care of our environment.

Giving Back to the Planet: For each purchase made, 3% of profits will go towards climate change initiatives and organizations working to offer solutions for these global issues.

What I’m wearing

Thick Flex Ring in Rose Gold: While I love silver and gold, there is something special about rose gold. I’m pretty feminine when it comes to style, but I still like to be somewhat ‘edgy’ - if that’s the right word? I think this piece has the best of both worlds with it’s stunning rose shine and jagged form. It’s definitely a special design that stands out in my jewelry box, and I always think about the sea ice when I have it on.

p.s. Siku means ‘Sea Ice’ in the Inuit language

Where to Purchase

You can find the entire Flex Collection online - here - and don’t forget to follow them on Instagram to stay up-to-date with all the beauty and inspiration.

Be Festive & Give Back this Valentine’s Day with a Sweet and Affordable Jewelry Collection from Charmed by a Cause

Minus all the boxed chocolates and balloons, I’ve always loved Valentine’s Day. Any holiday you can get away with decorating hallways with hearts and making yummy treats has my vote. For me, it was more about dressing up and sharing something sweet with my friends and family. One thing I would always wear was heart jewelry. I had a few heart necklaces that I would wear throughout my childhood, and they have since been lost. I’m so happy to be replacing them with these thoughtful new pieces from Charmed by a Cause!

Reasons to Love Charmed by a Cause

Wonderful Causes: Their name suits them perfectly. Charmed by a Cause donates 20% of the purchase price to a cause YOU want to support. They are so transparent in the dollar amount that you see exactly how much goes to your cause of choice. The three cause partners they currently support are the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Covenant House and Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. Read more about these important organizations here

Conscious Materials & Production: All pieces are ethically made in NYC from 100% recycled 14kt gold, sterling silver, ethically-sourced natural stones & reclaimed or lab grown diamonds. They also sell direct-to-consumer to avoid markup fees. We {ehm, our pocketbooks..} thank them!!

Custom Work: I think this is just too wonderful to not mention. If you are looking to raise funds for a non-profit, Charmed by a Cause will work with you to make that happen. Click here for more information.

What I’m Wearing

Their Valentine’s Day Collection is too sweet for words, and these pieces are minimalistic enough to be worn all year rather than just for V-day! Both are beautifully crafted and made from recycled sterling silver.

Where to Purchase

You can find the entire Valentine’s Day Collection - here - and don’t forget to follow Charmed by a Cause on Instagram to stay up-to-date with new designs!

All pieces are made-to-order so make sure you order by February 5th in order to get your jewelry in time for V-Day <3

Curated & One-of-a-Kind, This Zero-Waste Brand is Making Sustainable Fashion Cooler & Kinder Than Ever

FashionNatalie Kay

On social media, I see a lot of influencers speak about how thrifting is the most sustainable form of buying clothing. While I do find it great and an amazing sustainable option, I don’t agree with the statement entirely. The fashion industry employs millions of people all over the world, and those jobs are critical in supporting families, communities and so on. I believe supporting the conscious makers and brands who are implementing zero-waste into their business model is a complete package of sustainable fashion for me. AHNIKO is one of those brands. From curating beautiful vintage finds to using deadstock fabric to make us new designs, this is a true form of sustainable fashion {in my eyes}.

Reasons to Love AHNIKO

Environmentally Conscious: I’m sure we all have heard about the great amount of waste the fashion industry creates. Even without the throw away finished pieces, there is still a ton of virgin fabric behind the scenes that never gets used. Brands like AHNIKO are going through this ‘trash’ to put it in our closets rather the landfill. Not only are they choosing eco-minded materials, all of the packaging is either recycled PET plastic, compostable or reusable, and always recyclable.

Ethically-Made: AHNIKO produces their clothing line right in LA under safe working conditions and fair wages. It’s so nice to see a brand source their material and manufacture their clothes close to home. Cuts down on the carbon footprint a ton! Plus, with each purchase, you are able to pick a charity to donate a portion of the purchase to - see the list to choose from here

Awesomely Curated: Besides their own private label, AHNIKO has a great eye for vintage clothing. From coats to dresses, this is yet another great way to shop sustainably for your closet.

What I’m Wearing

Noelle Plaid Dress: Eeek, I LOVE this dress. Reminds me of something I had in grade school, but updated and more mature {in a good way}. It hugs me just the right way, and BEST PART, it’s made from deadstock fabric. I’ve been able to wear this piece so many different ways, and can’t wait to play with it more.

Where to Purchase

You can find both AHNIKO’s designs and their curated vintage selection online - here - and don’t forget to follow them on Instagram to stay up-to-date with new pieces!
