10 Eco Products Helping You Conserve Resources & Reduce Waste

Conscious ListsNatalie Kay

I'll be the first to admit, I'm not zero-waste. While I try, I don't live in a community where I can make that 100% possible. If I want to buy bulk, I have to drive half an hour to do so, and I'm still left with little options there. Plus, why do this when I can walk to the grocery store from my place?! Instead of beating myself up for not being perfect, I've decided to focus on the things I can control. All of these items I find useful in minimizing my carbon footprint, and hopefully some of them will be new to you, too!

1. Tote BagpErix $14

Okay, totally a broken record, but you need to always have a tote bag on hand! There are times I still forget mine, and end up leaving the store with arms full of goods trying my best to not drop them all on the ground. The cashier is always like, 'are you sure you got it?!' Yes, yes I do.. I think... ;)

So how can we always remember to bring one? Well, funny sayings help... amiright?! pErix is nailing it on the witty tote bag graphics. Created by Tonka Zorluer in Bulgaria, pErix is offering conscious minded shoppers the sweetest tote bags, all created fairly and with locally-sourced cotton. The totes are sewn by a local collective of women in Tonka's town so she is able to give us complete transparency when it comes to the worker's well being.

I'm rocking the 'Mars has no beaches! Keep earth safe'. I find this so fitting living at the beach, and it will become my official snack tote for when I want to just dig my toes into the sand for the day. Other favorite tote quotes they have are 'No Coffee On The Moon. Keep Earth Safe' & 'Think Outside the Trash'.

2. Organic Cotton T-shirt Hair Towel, Lakeshore Dry Goods $24

These cute prints make drying hair fun - yeah, that can be such a thing! These towels are super practical for those who are constantly in the water {or really anyone who showers.. so everyone with longish hair :P }, and are made from GOTS Certified Organic Cotton with low impact dyes. It's a great way to lessen your energy use by drying your hair as much as possible before using the blow dryer. It also works to keep frizz away while not damaging your hair which means less product use.

3. Spa Bidet, Tushy $84+

Save some paper while keeping your tushy healthy with a bidet. They are super easy to install to any toilet, and if you are near you sink you can even opt for the one that allows warm water {cool water is actually my preference though!}. After posting about Tushy a few times on the blog & instagram this past month, a lot of people have been telling me how this is super common in many Asian countries. Why is the US so slow to pick up on it?! I couldn’t imagine a bathroom without one, now.

4. Cloth Pads, HannahPads $12+

{15% off when you spend $79+ with code CHIC15

They say women use up to 16,000 pads & tampons throughout her entire life. Disposable items take a crazy amount of resources to create, and most of them are even individually wrapped. That's a ton of waste we can avoid. With hannahpads, your organic cloth pads last you years and then they biodegrade. Not to mention, you are saving thousands of dollars by switching to reusable cloth.

5. Tencel Sheets, Living Fresh $145+

There are several reasons why these sheets are great for reducing your carbon footprint. They stay cleaner longer because their moisture reduction quality reduces bacteria and lessens allergens & dust mites. Also, the production process saves a ton of water. The combination of Tencel+Plus™ Lyocell eucalyptus and cotton requires less pressing during maintenance and only 1 non-toxic chemical to process. Some cool facts about the eucalyptus tree: it requires no irrigation, farming, or pesticides and grows to maturity at about 10 years. Then only 10% is cut down while be replanted. Plus, they are super soft - so why not?!

10. Laundry Enhancer, EnviroKlenz $15+

{15% off at EnviroKlenz with code envirochic15}

Have you ever thrown anything out because you couldn't get the smell out of it?! Well, now you don't have to. This laundry enhancer by EnviroKlenz is amazing at getting those musty {almost mothball-like} smells out of your clothing. This product has three main active ingredients: Magnesium Oxide (MgO), Zinc Oxide (ZnO), Titanium Dioxide (TiO2), which are all minerals found on this planet and are considered truly non-toxic. These three ingredients come to form the perfect recipe for neutralizing or completely destroying a pollutant it comes in contact with. Especially if you purchase a lot of used/vintage clothing {or keep seasonal clothes in storage}, I highly recommend adding this to your laundry wash routine.
