Conscious New Years Resolutions

1. Treat Myself & Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

Okay.. so I know, we aren't all perfectly sustainable 24/7. I write about it everyday, and even I slip up. Example, some really old cheese my boyfriend had bought was rotting in the back of the fridge. It was wrapped in plastic, and  so absolutely disgusting, I just threw it away. I felt like there were sirens coming for me to come take me away as I threw it in the trash. As much as we preach about zero waste, we are human and we are going to make mistakes. The anxiety of being so perfect will kill me before anything else. Deep breaths, don't stress the small stuff, and think about how much you have saved with living a more conscious life.

2. Be a Better Herbivore

Yes.. I indulge in the occasional cheese plate {I'm Swiss, afterall}, and eat whatever someone makes me. I feel we are SO fortunate to even have the choice on what type of eater we are. I've toyed with the idea of being completely vegan {I'll go 4 or 5 days at a time}, but I'd rather eat an egg once and a while to get some B12 before I start taking a supplement because I'm not watching what I eat carefully enough. This next year, I'm going to pay closer attention to the nutrients my body is absorbing, and eat a lot more nuts - didn't realize how much those little suckers had in them! Like I mentioned above, we should be thankful to have the opportunity to eat what and when we want. 

3. Improve My Green Thumb

Embarrassing to say, but I know nothing about plants. Yeah, I know a few names, but that is about it. I'm very excited to start my 52 Week Plant Project. I'll have a section here on the blog sharing my experience with a plant each week. I'm sure there will be a few deaths along the way, but by the end of the year, I feel I'll have a better grasp on nature and the things that help us exist.
