Organic Cotton Nightwear

An interview with  Zoë Gale, one of the three founding members of this family business. noctu uses only the best organic fabrics {both GOTS & FairTrade Certified} & they sure look unbelievably cozy! Easy to have sweet dreams in an ethical nightie, right?!

Tell us about noctu and how sustainability is incorporated into the business.

noctu is a family run business. (My sister, my brother and myself). The idea to create a nightwear brand actually stemmed from my Dad’s slightly incessant mission to find a nightie he liked. So we decided to design him one. It was after my sister and I had returned from traveling in India and had witnessed first hand, the devastation conventional cotton growing caused, and still is, causing, that we felt we had to try and make a difference. noctu was born using only the finest organic cotton. Sustainability has always been an integral part of our business model. For us, it’s crucial as a small business to really engage with our customers, to listen to what they have to say and implement their ideas together with our vision to move forward. Sustainability really starts with transparency and we have always ensured we know where our materials come from and who makes our clothing. It is how you really learn about the impact you have, and how you can start to take small steps to improve.

Where do you find inspiration for your nightwear?

We wanted to create clothing that is effortless in design and inspired by nature, especially in terms of our colour pallette. I suppose our goal is to be a brand that aspires to be ethical but doesn’t ever compromise on the aesthetics. Our Grandmother was Norwegian and co-incidentally I now live just outside of Oslo, so I think there is definite inspiration that we all take from Scandinavian minimalism.

Why do you feel it is important for your products to be GOTS certified?

For us, being made from organic cotton is in noctu’s DNA. So it is essential that there is a recognised body that defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain but that also requires compliance with social guidelines as well. To be GOTS certified, each garment must contain a minimum of 70% organic fibres so people know and can trust GOTS certified products are organic.

Where can we find noctu products?
