Braintree | AW Top 15
Born in Sydney, based in London, Braintree began back in the mid 1990's. From the very beginning, ethics, affordability and sustainability were at the forefront of the business.
To me, Braintree is the eco-friendly sister to Anthro. Has that perfect eclectic mix where there is something for everyone. PLUS, they have men's clothing. Seriously, the most difficult top 15 I've had to put together - I would wear their entire AW15 Collection. Pictured above & below is the Yalla Zee Dress - my new favorite! Made from hemp and organic cotton, this chic little number is comfy and my fall go-to. Excited for it to get a little more chilly here in Charleston, so I can pair it with some great tights and booties.
What was the inspiration behind the AW15 collection?
The AW15 collection has been inspired by both our love of the natural world and a more folk-based, arts and crafts story. We have a number of prints taken from our vintage archive – like our autumn leaves print – available in both a vintage style tea dress and skirt and then contrasted with stripes for a more modern look and also our Hali Kia Top, tunic and dress which mixes beautifully ornate craft-based print with colour blocking. There are also some fun hand drawn woodland pieces like out Walumba Fox jumper, Kalbarri Bird Tee and our Kurrangong Owl top. Knitwear is also really exciting this year as we have a fabulous knitwear designer who creates such beautiful designs that you will never tire of like our Tasmania Throw which is a real statement blanket style cardigan made with 85% organic cotton and our Skye penda dress and throw both with our own hand-drawn Fair Isle patterns.
Tell us a little bit about the fabrics used in this collection.
All the fabrics we use at Braintree are either from sustainable or recycled sources. Hemp is one of our original fabrics and something we are still mesmerised by today. It is just so versatile and even more beautiful every time you wash and wear it. It’s a natural plant that has so many uses and such a rich history and interesting story. Tencel is a relatively new fabric for us and something which gives us a beautiful drape for skirts, tops and dresses. And of course bamboo – our bamboo socks are one of those things that once you start wearing, you never go back – they’re naturally antibacterial, hard wearing and thoughtfully designed to let your feet breathe and relax. We could talk about fabrics forever, there’s just so much to discover and share.
