14 {affordable} Sustainable & Fair Trade Handbags

tote responsibly, ladies

I've made handbag lists in the past, but I thought I would come out with something more practical and doable for most of our budgets. Everything on this list is under $120, and priced fairly for those involved in making the product and the materials chosen. Also, most of them support artisans, primarily women, and education. From crossbodies to totes, I think there is something for everyone in this list :D

1. Blue Pottery Duffle, October Jaipur $70

This India-based accessories brand follows the words "Thought of a dreamer, Skill of an artisan”. October Jaipur believes in ethical production and great craftsmanship, which is evident in their work. I truly find something special about their designs, and how they can take something which may seem unconventional in fashion to most {like ceramics} & make a product look so perfect.

And to think it all started with one sewing machine on a normal October day in a small room in Jaipur :)

This is one of those bags I can't go out into public without getting a handful of compliments. It's pretty unique, right?! Fun shape, pottery tiles, beautiful colors.. I mean, instant love! I think this is the first piece in my closet that has ever used pottery as material. Not to mention, blue & yellow is one of my favorite combos for floral patterns! The Blue Pottery Duffle is the perfect size for a zip-around wallet, phone, lipsticks, sunglasses and other little daily essentials you need to carry with you. Cute, practical, well made, good size & price.. what more do you want?

p.s. they ship internationally through paypal, so send them an email to request your product! info@octoberjaipur.com

2. Mini Tirhas Saddle Bag, Greater Things $118

So we have your cognac and now your LBH.. otherwise known as little black handbag ;)

You may remember seeing this chic guy the other day on the blog. Greater Things is a new online marketplace dedicated to goods making a positive difference for those rising above poverty, lacking education or overcoming another challenge. It was started by Nathan & Julie who had been traveling around the world experiecing many different cutlures and lifestyles. They saw many inequalites they felt compelled to take action for. This sparked the creation of an online shop where people like us could make a difference while using our purchasing power.

One of the brands they carry is FashionABLE who makes this beautiful little saddle bag that is helping support sustainable jobs for women in Ethiopia.
